Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk, who currently plays for Liverpool, has put an end to the ongoing speculation about his potential transfer to the Saudi Pro League.
In recent weeks, van Dijk’s name had been linked with a possible move to Al-Nassr, the runners-up in the Saudi league, who are seeking to bolster their defense with a high-profile signing.
The latest reports suggested that Liverpool would not part with van Dijk for less than 55 million euros, which dampened the Saudi club’s enthusiasm for the deal.
According to British network HITC, van Dijk has requested a new contract from Liverpool that would extend his stay at Anfield.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot also requested the club’s management to retain van Dijk, viewing him as a crucial part of the team.
Van Dijk, who is 33 years old, is set to see his current contract with the Reds expire at the end of next season.
